TenerifeLodge Looking for something different?  More privacy, comfort or a real Canarian experience?  On www.tenerifelodge.com you can find all the information you might need for your stay: -different types of accommodation: apartments, rural houses, rooms,... -info and booking of climbing- and other outdoor activities -info on car rental, restaurants, places of interest, … TenerifeLodge has 15 years of experience working with alternative and sports tourism on the Canary Islands and has an answer to all your questions. Sounds interesting?  Have a look at the website.
We are well aware that everything that we are saying here is not very eco-friendly but it is the inconvenient truth.  We definitely suggest to rent a car.  Car rental on the island is really cheap and there are dozens of car rental companies to choose from.  The way to go!  Down here we give you other options and explain you the problems they will cause you. Bus :  If you are very patient (there is no bus every 30 min, not even every hour) and don’t mind hiking 12-20km a day from and to the climbing area of your choice than this might be an alternative to the car. Check out the TITSA website. Taxi:  Cheaper than in most European countries, but not really an option.  Rent a car and donate the money you save to the Roxtar project. Scooter rental:  I’m sorry, we’re not on the Greek islands.  You can rent scooters on the island but they will barely make it driving up our mountain roads and their rent will probably be more expensive than car rental. Hiking and hitch-hiking:  If you want to spend more time getting to the climbing areas than actually climbing than this might work for you.  Unless you have blond long hair, beautiful eyes, wear a bikini and have legs that reach up to your shoulders.

WEATHER 365

Shortly we will have info on other activities where you are reading this.  For now we can only suggest to come to the Roxtore or Tenerife Climbing House and get the info from us personally. Just know that Tenerife not only is an all year round paradise for climbing but also for: -surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing -road and mountain biking -hiking -parasailing -horseback riding -canyoning -diving -etc.

ACCOMMODATION

Gentle summers and warm winters, this is how we can describe the climate we are enjoying in Tenerife.  Average temperatures lay between 17ºC in winter and 25ºC in summer,  the constant trade winds and the Atlantic Ocean that surrounds us make that it never gets too warm or too cold. Contrasts: -The greatest contrast occurs during the winter, when you can sunbathe on almost any beach in Tenerife, whilst resting your gaze on the snow-capped peak of Mount Teide, just a few kilometres away. -The North and the South of the Island also have different climatic conditions. There are more hours of sun all year in the South and more rainfall and higher humidity in the North, which explains the different landscapes and tones of the countryside, although both climates can be considered ideal within the mild and moderate climate we have already mentioned.   In short, the high temperatures one would expect in Tenerife from its proximity to the Tropic of Cancer and the Sahara Desert, are softened by the influence of the sea and the cold Canary current. On the other hand, the altitude of the island (Teide: 3.718m) causes a marked variation in temperature with altitude. -Within the context of these mild conditions, the island has a surprising variety of microclimates for every taste, within a small distance of each other. -Santa Cruz de Tenerife usually enjoys warm weather all year round. If you travel from Santa Cruz to the centre of San Cristóbal de La Laguna - the university city of Tenerife - in winter, you would be wise to take some light but warm clothing with you because temperatures can drop sharply in just a dozen kilometres and you may even find it is raining. Translation for your climbing vacation: -The best period for your climbing trip is from October to May, but… it rarely gets too hot for climbing,  not even in summer. -Our climate is milder than what you will encounter on the Spanish mainland, in the South of France or the Greek Islands in summer. -Most climbing is done in canyons, what makes there is always sun or shade to choose from. -Take some warm clothing (windstopper, light down or primaloft jacket) with you when you come in winter.  Temperature drops by +/-1ºC every 100m and most climbing is done at altitudes above 600m.
