10.000 BOLTS AND HANGERS

Ever wonder who bolts the hundreds of routes in Tenerife? The ROXTORE has partnered up with dedicated local climbers for over a decade, supplying them to date with over 10.000 bolts, hangers and anchors via our ROXTAR project. You can participate too by simply buying one (or more) ROXTAR products in the shop.

How can you help?

By purchasing a ROXTAR product. 20% of the profit goes to buying bolts, hangers, anchors and more which will end up in the hands of the guys constantly developing new routes and who are re-bolting the older ones. By keeping the canyons clean. If you carry it in then carry it back out. Please leave no trace of trash in the canyons, even toilet paper can take years to degrade in Tenerife's dry climate. Keeping noise to a minimum, both for safety and the benefit of local fauna. Especially NO music at the crag. Take note and inform us of any potentially loose rock, bolts or anchors. Request permits where needed. Be mindful when parking. Many climbing areas are in rural communities with narrow roads and locals use dirt tracks to access farm land. Please don't block them. Use a minimum of chalk, don't place 'tick marks'. Chalk won’t wash away here.

For the 2022-2023 season, we’ve decided to team up with the local climbing/canyoning federation (FIMT: Federación Tinerfeña de Montañismo) and change our modus operandi. Modus operandi: Every Roxtar product will receive a number of gecko points. A ‘gecko’ stands for a value (see the list below). For ex.: 1 gecko = 1 zinc plated hanger + bolt. 1 roxtar t-shirt = 4 gecko points = 4 zinc plated hangers Every time we sell a roxtar product we will add the number of gecko points to our ‘bolting-list’. After the Easter vacation we count the total amount of points and donate them to the FIMT. They will decide what equipment they need for the next season and that’s the equipment we will buy and give to them before summer. Why the federation? Climbing is growing fast, and we need to protect the outdoors. Many areas are protected and not everybody has the needed knowledge to bolt a route. The federation will control everything, and we will all benefit from it: -what equipment will be used in what area: Titanium close to the ocean, marine grade stainless (316L) at higher altitudes. -who bolts the route: persons with experience, qualifications and sense of responsibility -when and where are the new routes being bolted: after an analysis of protected areas, does the area need more routes, what equipment for which area, … -re-bolting: everybody likes to bolt a new route, but only a few like to re-bolt. The federation will control and re-bolt where necessary -all new routes and re-bolted routes will be published on the website of FIMT and we will share it on our social media
